Against ‘cessationism’ – and why gifts of the Spirit have continued to this day – audio
February 4, 2018 /The New Testament records gifts of the Spirit granted to the believers and while no scriptures state these would be taken away before the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, there are those who say they long since “ceased.” The extra-biblical doctrine called “cessationism” contends that with either: 1) the finalization of the New Testament, or 2) the death of the last apostle John – who wrote the last book – God withdrew the gifts that were only temporary, they say. Those who take the opposite stance have been called “continuists” or “continuationists” because they advocate the gifts have continued to this day. Without doubt, this is a can of worms.…

The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus – Audio
January 7, 2018 /A foundational topic of a normal Christian life, the “law of the spirit” is something everyone should know. Like the lilies of the field that just grow, the law is a spontaneous phenomenon experienced by those rightly abiding in Christ, in faith, and this overcomes the “law of sin” (or the sin nature). The apostle Paul spoke of this in Rom 7 and 8 (copied in below). In Rom 8, he uses the term “law” in three different applications and this can be confusing to some. Colored in words help call out the different uses of the word “law” and this handout was given with this house church sermon. May…

When Adam tries to practice the faith of Christ – Audio
December 3, 2017 /This stands to be an eye-opening message as it’s a commentary on the faith since the beginning in light of what the apostles of Christ sought to establish. It’s also a warning to any Christian of the conditions we live under in which the results the Almighty God said are possible are not happening. That is, evil is on the rise and the testimony of the church is too often not so great, nor are other fruits promised by God for those who’d take the narrow way of the fullness of the Apostles’ doctrine. The term “in Adam” (1 Cor 15:22) is a biblical reference to the “old man,” (Rom…

Do we want God’s mission, or man’s tradition? – audio teaching
November 5, 2017 /It’s no secret that Christianity has divided into thousands of sub-divisions, or denominations that in the extreme claim things that are the polar opposite of what the Word of God teaches. God, who is the same as ever, and who has not changed His mind on the reason why He sent Jesus Christ, would still bring us to know “the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.” (Jude 1:3) This is not saying we are the authority, but that God is the authority. He is the one who can lead us in. Our calling is to seek Him in prayer, and be obedient, and trust and have…

Root Issues of the ‘Flesh’ For Christians – Sermon Audio
October 16, 2017 /The New Testament says Christians have a dual nature – “flesh” and spirit.” Romans 6:6 says that flesh, or the “old man” has been crucified with Christ. … knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. The mystery of godliness is great, and the just are called to believe with their will by way of the “new man” made alive (Eph. 2) in Christ. The experience of overcoming the flesh is most succinctly spoken in Rom. 8:2 of as a higher “law of the Spirit” of God that overcomes…
