Bible Study Romans 6 – May 17, 2017
This audio recording touches on highlights from Romans 6.
Romans 6 tells of what the Lord Jesus Christ did for us on the Cross. The Father includes us who are His sheep in Him (1 Cor 1:30.31).
Our “old man” in Adam is crucified. The “knowing” (Rom 6:6) is a definite, certain, revealed type of knowing that is a level above mere head knowledge, or understanding.
Head knowledge never saved anyone, and so it is for the truth of Romans 6. We are emphatically and repeatedly told we are “dead to sin,” “alive to God,” “free from sin,” no longer a “slave of sin.”
While Romans 6 has been taught by teachers presuming to shield sheep who fail to lay hold of its truths from deep discouragement, note the Apostle Paul’s tone makes no such allowance!
Instead, he nearly belabors the point – under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit – and this word was written to a new church plant in Rome prior to the apostle even having reached them yet in person!
What God expects of us who obey and believe Him is great. He can do that because He is not really expecting anything from us, per se, except to believe.
Indeed, God says our carnal selves, the “flesh,” has no part or portion in this life in Christ.
His affirmative statements therefore put the onus back on Himself. He is the power. We are called only to believe just as we did when we were born of the Spirit.
The same degree of certain knowledge is therefore required to receive Romans 6 as for salvation itself.
