What it is to be ‘spiritual’ like Jesus and why you should you care
Jesus was spiritual. As God and man in one He was the most dynamic Person who ever lived. He said His secret would be made available to those who followed Him and received the Holy Spirit. If they really did, there would be evidence and “fruit” of it. By the New Testament’s standards it is clear one may be a real believer in Jesus and yet not be spiritual. About Salvation in Christ
The New Testament teaches that Jesus Christ’s forgiveness is for all past and present sins upon repentance, receiving Jesus as Lord, and baptism into Him by immersion in water, in the power of the Holy Spirit. The witness and testimony Jesus asked of His followers as the best proof of God on earth
Christians who share their faith with others rightly give testimony of Jesus Christ and God’s truths, but the Lord also asked them for a testimony in their own right. To get this, instead of Christian soul winners selling sinners a message catering to their self interests (and the gospel is not really for sale), they needed to prepare them to die to self, and take up Christ’s interests. Jesus said life and death significance hinged on it, and if they obeyed Him implicitly, they could expect to create the best proof of God there is – lives transformed by amazing proportions. This would speak volumes more than words alone.

A religious fleshly mind produces the perfect clone of a fruitful and authentic Christian life and most Christians have no idea how much they are affected by it. Why God ‘commands’ His people to become spiritual – sermon audio
In 1 Corinthians 3 the apostle Paul rebuked the Christians for being “carnal” and not “spiritual.” This plus other New Testament passages indicate that becoming a spiritual Christian is thus required by God. We put the word commands in quote marks however because there is no actual command, but becoming spiritual is an effective injunction that God expects His people to know and follow through on. Jesus gave His life for His people to know the fullness of it.
