What Jesus Christ wants to accomplish with the Gospel is written plainly in the New Testament, but revealed only in full and accurately by the Holy Spirit. The gospel is a whole lot more than the Great Commission to save sinners. This is a vital part, to be sure, but it is part of the greater whole of God’s eternal purpose. Life and death depend on His people embracing the totality of what God is asking by the enabling power of the Holy Spirit. Christians who share their faith with others rightly give testimony of Jesus Christ and God’s truths, but the Lord also asked them for a testimony in their own right. To get this, instead of Christian soul winners selling sinners a message catering to their self interests (and the gospel is not really for sale), they needed to prepare them to die to self, and take up Christ’s interests. Christians are to be the citizens of heaven on earth
Christians may be residents of any nation of this world, but their first allegiance and identity is they are the eternal citizens of heaven on earth. This is the express will of God, as written all over the place in the New Testament. It is the entire thrust of what God and the first apostles wanted to see accomplished. Jesus Christ gave His life in the hope that those who truly love Him would recognize it, go through a series of healthy godly responses, and choose to give their lives in return.
